Jireh Food Share
Our Mayor Christine Richards is pictured with Amanda Gayle. Chris sat and chatted with Amanda who told her that there are around 40 local people who use the food share. Most did not call every week but were pleased of the support in weeks where they were unable to afford to buy food.
Mandy ensures that people receive a carrier bag filled basic provisions, especially things that don’t need a lot of preparation. Not everyone has the means to book meals. A few weeks ago she received a donation of Fray Bentos tinned pies. Many of us remember these pies as a good start for a cheap meal. However, some people were unable to accept them because they could not afford to heat their ovens.
The food share is one of my charities that I donated to early this year to enable stock to be available throughout the summer holidays. I am very aware that many will be missing out on school dinners.
Thanks to Mandy, and other volunteers. Also thanks to Jireh for housing the foodshare.
It is open each week on Thursdays at 5pm.
